Crocodile Pose, a Centering & Breath Awareness Exercise

Around you

an ocean of air

ready to become your breath ~

~Yukti Verses~ The Radiance Sutras, Lorin Roche, PhD

Two words to consider as we explore our breath – Nourishment & Cleanse

There is an ocean of air all around us, ready to become our breath. In this ocean of air is the nourishing sustenance that feeds every cell of our remarkable body. As we inhale we nourish and as we exhale we cleanse, releasing what our body no longer needs.

The Challenge – 4-7 minutes for 7 days Resting in Crocodile Pose – Conscious stillness in crocodile pose is about breath and body awareness

  • Lay on the floor in crocodile posture – 3-5 minutes
  • Bring awareness to your navel Center
  • Breathe without forcing any changes in your breath
  • After 3-5 minutes in the crocodile posture, roll over onto one side, then onto your back for 1-2 minutes
  • Notice how you feel

The Practice – Find a quiet and comfortable place on the floor, A place without disturbance. Lay on your stomach, forearms are crossed or stacked, forehead resting on forearms, collar bones are lifted off the floor. Legs are hip distance apart with the feet relaxed in a comfortable position. Soften or close your eyes. Bring awareness to your navel center. Notice your abdomen as it presses against the floor on the inhalation and releases and relaxes on the exhalation. Consider that each inhalation nourishes every cell, tissue, and fiber of our body. Each exhalation cleanses the body.

On the inhalation, the abdomen expands as the diaphragm pulls the lungs down moving the stomach and digestive organs out, meeting resistance against the floor.

On the exhalation, the abdomen relaxes, releases, and returns the organs into place.

After 3-5 minutes in crocodile posture, prepare the body for movement with a deep inhalation, gentle roll over onto one side, supporting the head with your arms, rest here for 2 complete breaths, then onto your back for 1-2 minutes with legs hip-distance apart, arms resting alongside the body, eyes soft or closed. Notice how you feel, be kind in your discovery. Resting here as long as you like before returning to your day.

~Namaste
