A Rose Tinted Heart

The Forty Rules of Love # 4:

Intellect and love are made of different materials. Intellect ties people in knots and risks nothing, but love dissolves all tangles and risks everything. Intellect is always cautious and advises, ‘Beware too much ecstasy’, whereas love says, ‘Oh, never mind! Take the plunge!’ Intellect does not easily break down, whereas love can effortlessly reduce itself to rubble. But treasures are hidden among ruins.

A broken heart hides treasures.

What I want can be elusive and is rarely found when I’m actively looking.
It’s Love, a romantic love that allows me to share the beauty and difficulties of this world.

The world and the paths of life are too beautiful and difficult to walk alone. Life should be shared and watered with love, fertilized with patience, kindness, a peaceful silence, open arms, a trustful understanding that neither lover is perfect and individual autonomy that is respected and encouraged.  A shared life and love should be cultivated with poetic passion, adventure, a good bottle of wine, and a lifetime of beautiful sunsets.

Romantic Love has always taken me by surprise, it sneaks up from behind, giggling and covers my eyes. “Guess who?”, it whispers as it kisses the nape of my neck. The next time that this kind of love finds me and I turn and discover who might have found the key to my heart and I his, I will embrace it and not let go.

The something that I want is deeper than what I see on the surface of a man, It is not superficial. It’s hidden behind the warm, drifting shadows of his eyes. It is found in his personal journey, how he’s walked his path, in his own discoveries and what he’s done with the experiences of his life. It’s discovered in his masteries and in his flaws.

In my experience, it’s found in those deep, juicy, heartfelt conversations and difficult moments of disagreement and lines in the sand. It is found wrapped in a late-night embrace of whispered secrets. It’s felt in the observation of how he treats another life and how he treats himself. It is found in the love and the respect he has for his mother and his past lovers. It is found in his ardent contribution and expectations of the world.

Sometimes I see and feel it instantly and sometimes It’s a sweet discovery of something that I didn’t even know that I wanted or needed in my life.

I choose love because my rose-tinted heart will settle for nothing less.
